Do-it-yourself is becoming quite popular nowadays and therefore it is important for anyone who is interested in such landscaping to understand its concept. If you are looking for some important information about do-it-yourself landscaping, you are on the right page. As is well-known, landscaping is the process of modifying and improving your surrounding ground or land in various innovative ways. Let’s have a deeper understanding of do-it-yourself landscaping now.

Do-it-yourself landscaping may depend on various factors, including your personal choice, the way you want to modify your land area around your house, and your innovations for commercial purposes. You may also do landscaping of your land for business purpose. The core motive behind do-it-yourself landscaping is to ensure you have a landscaping design that has natural impacts on your life and living and is a great source of saving energy.

Now, let’s consider the prerequisites of do-it-yourself landscaping. A close survey of the land’s condition, such as uneven areas and steep grades, before beginning with your approach for landscaping is necessary to check for the possible scopes for improvement. A good landscaping design is also an important prerequisite for do-it-yourself landscaping that is in turn dependent on land survey. In addition to land survey and your approach for a good landscaping design, you should have a proper focus on the intent of landscaping. You may want to sell your property or you may need a good living surrounding for your home. You also should take necessary steps to develop a theme plan. Once your focus and objective is clear, you can now start thinking of a suitable plan in your landscaping design. Your plan can be targeted at a simply beautiful garden or a much superior garden of an executive style. Besides, when you have established landscaping, you must consider maintaining your land now. Ensure there is sufficient water supply in the land for plants and also make sure that the entire land is free from any useless garbage.

Do-it-yourself landscaping is a very innovative approach that can be dedicated to certain best practices for better outcomes. The weather and environment may be suitable for some particular categories of plants and therefore your plantation should be made accordingly. Try to ensure plantation in your land is made in the sequence based on the heights of the plants. Landscaping can be enhanced by planting evergreen and foliage plants with flowers. Besides using plants, designing the entire land area with beautiful fences and walls can also be a key aspect of do-it-yourself landscaping. In addition, you can also look into many other factors and features of do-it-yourself landscaping, such as watering, choosing drought-tolerant plants, and considering seasonal flowers carefully.

Yard work is not an easy task and when you have kids or a career, getting out to do that yard work is that much more difficult. The grass needs to be cut, the flowers planted and watered, and those irritating weeds that keep returning must be yanked and sprayed. Sometimes just getting it done is a nice treat, but if a party you are hosting is coming up or you are inviting a few people to your house, it is important to have the yard looking nice. With those busy everyday tasks, hiring a Chelsea landscaper may be the smartest way to go. Chelsea landscaping can make sure that your house is in the best shape for that party.

When you look after your yard there are bound to be less problems with it later on in the future. Pulling weeds and watering and cutting the grass on a normal basis can save you a lot of time when you really need your lawn looking up to par. Can you imagine if you barely ever pulled weeds or cut your grass? Your yard would probably start to look like a jungle and no one would ever care to spend time in your yard. Simple tasks like watering, weeding, and cutting are the things that should be done regularly. Planting flowers and such can be a seasonal task. However, it is important that it gets done because that means less stress later.

Keeping a healthy lawn and garden can be very environmentally beneficial. Studies have proven that plants can actually decrease the amount of noise pollution and carbon dioxide levels. They also supply clean oxygen for people and animals to breathe. When there are storms with a lot of downpour or with simple everyday wear and tear, plants can stop erosion.

Also having a great looking lawn can attract people to it. If you are hosting a party and there are too many guests to have all inside at once, it is always nice to have a beautiful lawn for people to be in. You can set up tables and chairs and even have a table for snacks and drinks. It is just important for that lawn to look nice and cleaned up for your guests. When and if you are trying to put your home on the market, the yard could possibly make it or break it. If the prospective buyers love your house but the yard is terrible shape, they may not be interested.

It is difficult to take care of a home, kids, and pets and keep up with the outside of your home also. Working on it in small amounts or simply hiring someone who can take care of it for you is a great way to make sure that your yard always looks its best. From inviting people over to trying to sell your home, people will be interested in the appearance of your yard. If you never take care of it they will be aware but if you do, they will greatly appreciate your hard work.

Many people do not know the best and most effective way to use artificial outdoor plants. They look good outside the home, but it’s a case of finding the right place to put them. In truth, it’s all about getting the balance of beauty and ambience.

Take a look at the below for ways to use artificial outdoor plants effectively.

•The pathway leading to do your door – regardless of the size of your home, the path is important. People look around at this stage as they walk up to the door, and the most important thing is that they feel welcome. For anyone that struggles with weeds and the like, just place some artificial outdoor plants there instead and disguise them leading up to the door. What you want is for people to appreciate your home as soon as they walk up the path.

•The back garden – parents that have children and pets to look after often find it difficult to keep a close eye on them when out in the garden. Unbeknown to many parents is the fact there are trees, plants, flowers and shrubbery that aren’t always good for youngsters and pets to be near. One of the main garden concerns is ivy which tiny hands often venture near to. In this case, it is artificial outdoor plants that can really benefit you.

•Alfresco dining – there are always those that like to dine outside and chances are that an oudoor, all-weather table is already in situ. Everyone loves to eat out in the sunshine. However, I bet you haven’t considered brightening up the table with an artificial outdoor plant before? Place it in the middle as a focal point and watch the compliments flood in. Plus, by using an artificial plant, you won’t have to worry about the nuisance bees and wasps flying round your food at the same time!

Vegetable Gardening – 5 Tips For A Perfect Vegetable Garden!

There are no second opinions about the fact that vegetable gardening is a much more satisfying experience than any other form of gardening. This is more so because one gets the opportunity to relish the dishes made out of ones own produce. However, vegetable gardening is also not as easy as other types of gardening and one needs to plan well in advance, even before starting tilling the ground for the seeding purpose.

1. One important factor that needs consideration while planning is the climatic conditions. There are some vegetables that can be cultivated only in a certain type of climate and season. For example, Brussels sprouts, cabbage and broccoli can only be grown in cold areas, whereas, peppers, eggplants and tomatoes grow better in hot and sunny weather.

2. Another gardening tip that can be effectively used is that there are certain kinds of vegetables that do very well if exposed partially to sunlight. For example, lettuce is a plant that grows fantastically when exposed to sunlight for half a day and then kept in shade for the remaining half. One should plan the placement of ones vegetables in the garden keeping such factors in mind. Other vegetables that grow very well under partial exposure to sunlight are carrots, spinach, cauliflower, cucumbers, Swiss chard, radishes and beets.

3. Is your garden located in a region that either has a very long growth season or a very short one. Based on its weather conditions, a garden can be cultivated with the help of the following gardening tip. Gardens with long growth season are apt for growing vegetables like tomatoes, beans (lima, soy and dry), artichokes, celery, peppers, potatoes, asparagus, rhubarb, eggplant, onions, kale and leeks. Whereas, the gardens located in short growth areas must have vegetables like beets, cabbage, carrots, turnips, beans, peas, radishes, peas, mustard greens, onions and lettuce.

4. The next significant gardening tip is based on your level of expertise as a gardener. If you are a beginner, you will do much better by growing vegetables like beans (dry and green), potatoes, squash (summer and winter), radishes, tomatoes, beets, salad greens, beets, sunflowers, lettuce, Swiss chard and any other root crop, that don’t offer great challenges and put you off in no time. In case you are a seasoned gardener and wish to take on the challenges, you can try your hand at celery, watermelon, parsnips, leeks, cantaloupe, Chinese cabbage, cauliflower, leeks, peas and corns.

5. At the time of planning for your vegetable garden, you must also include the space constraints that certain vegetable plants may impose. Some vegetables can do with minimum space while others may require yards and yards to come good. This gardening tip will help you classify the vegetables by the space that they require to grow. Vegetables that consume maximum space are artichokes (globe), cauliflower, cucumbers, peas, potatoes, winter squash, broccoli, corn, melons and sweet potatoes. Least space consuming vegetable plants are beets, Chinese cabbage, tomatoes, eggplant, lettuce, radishes, mustard greens, parsnips, beans (bush and pole), carrots, turnips, Swiss chard, leeks, sunflowers, peppers and onions. You must take care while planting these vegetables that you leave enough space for you to move around in the garden.

It is strictly advisable to not to use any chemicals in your vegetable gardens to get rid of weeds and insects. There are several organic methods that can be used without employing chemical herbicides and pesticides. Use of such chemicals kills both the good and harmful bugs in the vegetable garden. Moreover, the chemically exposed vegetables can have severe impact on the consumer health in the long run. You can always make use of a good naturally prepared mulch to get rod of weeds in your garden.

The practical nature of this hobby or occupation makes choice of a gardening gift relatively easy. One can’t have all the tools possible, and there is always room to add one more. Men receive gardening gifts more often than women because they are usually the most difficult to shop for, and they will be happy with such a present. You’ll bring a smile on the face of someone dear by presenting them with a nice and practical gift.

You can get a better idea about what gardening gift to choose by leafing through some gardening catalogs. A gardening basket gift also sounds like a great idea particularly given the richness of products now available in the gardening category. Just get a basic container and fill it with some inspiring and scented goodies, and you’ll see how nicely it works for Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries or some other special days.

You can even offer a gardening gift to your kid particularly since so many tools are now child-sized. Besides a kit full of small tools, you could also order a mini windowsill garden. A child who takes an interest in gardening should be encouraged because it is a nice and clean occupation that cultivates patience and offers great personal satisfactions. Plus, with a gardening gift you can teach your child how to handle small responsibilities and learn to become a practical adult.

Garden books make one other excellent gardening gifts, on the one condition that they be well chosen. The user’s age is essential for the selection of the present. There is no point in buying a vegetables book if the person grows a flower garden. Maybe an illustrated books about aeroponics could be better if you know the user’s interest in earth-friendly gardening.

There is a wide range of outdoor accessories available for those who prefer landscape design. Get some nice wind chimes for instance or a hammock, or buy some rare type of flowers that would be a nice addition to a greenhouse, if it is the case. Gardening equals inspiration, and the large number of choices allows for varied and nice gift selection. Shop around and search on the Internet to learn details and get an idea about the overall offer.

Lots of gardening enthusiasts share opinions and ideas on online forums. You can find almost any gardening forum you can think of: from urban and general gardening to organic gardening, plants, fertilizers, greenhouse gardening and so much more. The ideas are not necessarily amateurish because there are many experts who log in forums and share their experience and knowledge. You can even access large databases of information with thousands of plant species, but this usually depends on the community to which you belong.

By posting comments on a gardening forum you can share your inspiration or seek advice when you are at a loss. Participations to discussions is freely consented and if you have some great topic you want to start, you can initiate it on the gardening forum where you are a member. If you are new to the community, start by introducing yourself. It’s nice to just say howdy and you’ll see that people will welcome you warmly.

Read the usage conditions, the tips and suggestions provided to the gardening forum users. Sometimes there are rules to be met in order to post comments. Yet, these are just formalities that you can get through easily and then go to the stuff that interests you. The Internet allows for a larger access to information, and great projects can come out of the international collaborations of those who work closest to land and plants.

When you join a gardeners forum, pick up the topic that most interests you. View the other people’s comments and see the direction of the discussion. You can just read and learn a few things from the older posts or join in and provide an individual solution or answer related to the gardening topic in question. It is important to mention the fact that forums have moderators and that all the posts are monitored. This does not prevent the freedom of speech but rather allows for the activity of the gardening forum to carry on without rudeness and controversies.

In case you speak some other language besides English, you can become a member of a foreign gardening forum without any problem. The Internet does not question nationality. One thing though, it is good to share information with people that grow plants in similar geographical conditions to yours. If you live in the tropics and you enter a discussion about temperate climate gardening, you may not take any interest in the topic.

A highly creative, rewarding and exciting job, landscape gardeners can often find life is made much easier with the introduction of landscaping bark. The expertise of landscaping professionals can be used in many ways. Many large estates such as Chatsworth house in the UK, employ landscape gardeners. They can also be employed in business parks and commercial centres where first impressions count and on smaller private gardens in inner cities and the suburbs.

If time is of the essence for landscaping gardeners, then the benefit of something like landscaping bark can make all the difference to the simplicity and ease of managing a project. Landscaping bark can be used in all areas of landscaping for various jobs and can ensure a beautiful and well-balanced landscape garden.

The first important benefit to using landscaping bark is that large swathes of landscape can be covered quickly and with relative ease bar a small amount of soil prep. Before using the bark for this purpose, the soil should be cleared of plants that are unwanted, including common weeds. However, what bark allows the landscape gardener to achieve is to continue to use the soil for planting and for spreading around existing plants and flower beds.

Gardeners can find that plants may need less watering because Landscaping bark can hold in moisture and prevent water from running-off unnecessarily. On its own in big land areas, this fact can help prevent expenditure on a lot of extra watering and time. Landscaping bark is also very good at insulating the roots of plants helping to prevent them from frost damage even during the heaviest winter months.

Getting rid of the job of weeding is one of every gardeners dreams, not least that of the landscape gardener – landscape bark can help achieve this aim. No-one likes weeding – not even landscaping gardeners who have the job of design and creation of gardens. It’s important to ensure that there are no weeds or unwanted plants in the soil before the bark is laid down, but after this there should be very little problem with weeding.

By saving money and potentially days of time, landscape bark could be the landscape gardeners good-looking best friend. Landscape bark can is a recycled bi-product of the forestry industry.

Tips To Create A Perfect Flower Garden

Gardens, employing flowers as their primary elements, are called flower gardens. Plants, shrubs, trees and the other contributing components are present as well, but the focus is on flowers. These flower gardens are usually cultivated for ornamental purposes.

How Did The Idea Evolve?

Todays flower gardens have an interesting history behind them : While pruning, some farmers noted a few colorful weeds. They liked the colors and so left them there. The concept of tolerating these beautiful weeds, gradually caught on and led to the culture of cultivating flowers.

Knot Gardens

Flower gardens arranged artistically, are known as Knot gardens. Knot gardens are designed by a systematic composition of plants, herbs and shrubs. The plants are planted in a pre-calculated way so that when they grow, they end up forming a desired design. Most common ones are rectangle-regions or square-compartments. The edges are given shape with herbs planted in queues, with almost no space left in-between. These are also cut accordingly to maintain the width of the edges throughout in synch. The fence in this fashion, often brings paths in flower gardens, for the visitors to walk through.

These paths derived by boundaries, are sometimes filled with sand, gravel or concrete, and the trend of growing lawn in the regions traced is now on the rise. The number of square regions a Knot garden can carry, depends on the size of a garden and varies in the range of one to ten. These types of flower gardens were first designed in the times of Queen Elizabeth I in UK.

Plants used to form Knot flower gardens are lemon balm, hyssop, costmary, germander, marjoram, acanthus, mallow, chamomile, rosemary, calendulas, violas, thyme, southernwood, santolina etc. Such flower gardens are also called parterres.

Herb Gardens

The gardens with plants used for medicinal and cooking purposes are known as herb gardens. Some flowers are edible, one can eat them freshly-cut, while some others may only be eaten when cooked or baked. Flower gardens are at times, cultivated to grow medicinal plants too, such as aloevera. In ancient times, there were no modern physicians, just the nuns and monks, who were said to heal pain by using extracts of plants.

Aloevera is still widely used today for skin treatments, especially for treating acne. The others herbs falling in this genre are : rosemary, parsley, sage, marjoram, thyme, mint, rue, angelica, bay, basil etc.

Tips For Your Domestic Flower Gardens

Flower gardens need that extra attention from their creators:

- The color, aroma, height, leafage are all attributes of the plants, should be studied carefully before sowing their seeds in your flower gardens. One thing to be kept in mind is that no two plants with similar colored blossoms should be placed beside each other.

- Spacing between the plants should also be worked out in advance.

- A well-examined flower-seed-mix can be used to take care of the arrangements and designs of the flower-plants.

- Different plants bloom in different seasons. Paying due attention to this fact, the plants should be grown in such a way so as to make the flower gardens look colorful throughout the year.

In the scorching days of summer, one of the best ways to overcome the heat is to go for a dip in the swimming pool, if you are lucky enough to own one. But, most people who have a pool aren’t only using the pool as a spot to cool off and relax, they also use it as the key feature in their landscape designs. To many, a garden with a swimming pool grows into a sanctuary where one can depart from the hustle and bustle of the day, and completely take it easy. To others, it is a spot used to entertain relatives and colleagues. Either way, the yard isn’t going to be finished until the area surrounding the swimming pool has been suitably landscaped.

Features to Think About Before Devising a Design Plan for Landscaping Close To a Swimming Pool

There are a few aspects to think about before preparing a backyard landscape scheme. These consist of, but are not restricted to, typical weather, size of the area, existing landscape, privacy, beauty, convenience, and most important, your finances. Also, if you are landscaping near an existing swimming pool, you’re going to be a bit more restricted in the number of possibilities that are open to you. For new pool installations, the possibilities are nearly endless and restricted by only budget and any building code restrictions that must be observed. If you have the budget for it, it is best to hire a landscape designer. An area landscape designer ought to be acquainted with building code restrictions, material cost, and regional weather concerns.

Swimming Pool Coping and Deck

If you are planning your backyard landscape around an existing swimming pool, this will probably not be a concern as in ground pools are usually initially built with these components. For new set-ups, the choice of the coping and deck will probably be the most important decision that needs to be reached. Swimming pool coping is the edging or trim that is fitted around the boundary of the pool. There are basically four kinds of coping to choose from. Rolled edge coping generally consists of brick, pavers or concrete and is smooth with a rolled up inner rim. Cantilevered coping is a modern variety that lengthens the decking past the edge of the pool and down the side forming an L-shape which makes the decking look thicker than it really is. Bull-nosed coping is constructed from cast-concrete, stone, or cast-stone and is level on top with a rounded interior edge. Lastly, rough cut coping is made of flat stones which give the pool a more natural and uneven appearance. It is most regularly used in combination with rock waterfalls or other types of rock formations. The swimming pool deck is the region surrounding the pool that is commonly made from concrete, wood, pavers, stone, or tile. Consider adding natural stone coping and decking or concrete pavers that match the accents on the house. Make safety a top priority and think through practicalities. Pick a decking material and color that will not be too hot to stand on in the sun or too slippery when damp. Additionally, take into consideration any future upkeep requirements of the decking material. For example, wood decking will need to be retreated every 5 to 7 years.

Water Features

There is no better means to increase the peacefulness of your backyard utopia than by the addition of a stylish water feature. Water features come in an extensive assortment with the most popular being fountains and landscape waterfalls. Cascading rock waterfalls, waterfalls from adjacent spas, waterfalls from slides, and sheer waterfalls trickling from retaining walls offer a visually thrilling spectacle. Water sprays from vertical fountains and laminar jets are growing in popularity as well. The rapidest growing thing currently in regard to swimming pool features is the addition of fiber-optic lighting. Fiber-optic lighting is not only being built into the sides of the swimming pool, but is also being used to show off the water features mentioned above. Many lighting kits include a remote control and color wheel which allows the pool owner to vary the color of the lighting.

Greenery and Flowerpots

No pool landscaping scheme would be complete without the addition of plants, shrubs and trees. Planters range from modest flower pots, garden urns, planters built into the patio, retaining wall flower beds, planters incorporated into rock structures, and the most popular, a flower bed which frames the entire, or sections of the patio. Pay a visit to the local garden center to locate types of foliage that are specific to your planting zone. Factors include the extent of sunlight the plant will have in respect to the area you intend to plant it, its distance from the swimming pool, and the backyard color strategy. Chlorine can be damaging to plants, hence, if the pool uses chlorine, you will need to keep the plants far enough away from the swimming pool so that they aren’t affected by splashing water. The root structure of the plant is an additional critical issue if you intend on placing it next to the swimming pool. Be certain not to plant trees with oversized root systems too close to the swimming pool. Lastly, you’ll want to know if the plant drops its flowers or leaves. If it does, you’ll either want to avoid using it, or plant it far enough away from the swimming pool to make sure that the flowers and leaves do not end up in the pool. Plants, shrubs and trees that lose their flowers or leaves not only demand more maintenance, but may damage the pool pump or block the pools pipes.

If all these alternatives appear a tad overwhelming, you’re not alone. The most beneficial advice is to view photos of existing pool landscapes to find the style and preferences that you like. You can locate them on websites that sell swimming pools, as well as in their trade magazines and catalogs. The most important thing you should do is put together a comprehensive plan before commencing with your landscaping venture. If you do that, you are guaranteed to make a sound, low care, trouble-free pool landscape that will convert the yard into your own secluded heaven.
